This game follows the same gameplay premise as games like Alien Isolation and Secret Neighbor, where the player must complete various tasks while avoiding being caught. The gameplay is tense and falls into the horror category.

Set in a dystopian future

Kohate is set in a future where the prison system has been commercialized to the point that new prisoners are just auctioned off to the highest bidder. The protagonist is one such prisoner, and they have been sold to an organization that takes them to a secret lab for testing purposes. The player must perform a series of tasks, though they will not be alone in the lab.

Stalked by an abomination

The player navigates the lab through a first-person perspective and soon finds they are not alone. Also in the lab is an abomination — a grotesque and homicidal creature. The creature stalks the corridors looking for the player, and the player must avoid it at all costs.

Good graphics, long playtime

Many players have praised the high-quality graphics on offer in Kohate. They have also praised the long playtime. At a little over an hour’s average playtime, Kohate is quite long for a game of this type. As the player works their way through them, there is also a wide variety of tasks to keep the game from feeling repetitive.
